Where In The World
Have You Been?

Every chair, dresser and bookshelf has a story, but furniture can’t speak for itself. The lucky pieces find their way to Judy Rickenbacher, a bona fide "furniture whisperer," who deftly coaxes the history out of well-worn wood and nails. Dignity, mixed with a dash of romance, a touch of whimsy, or a pinch of fantasy, restores purpose and beauty to once quality craftsmanship.

Working with mostly vintage pieces, Judy uses found furniture as a palette for combined artwork, faux painting and historical and cultural ornament. The one-of-a-kind, heirloom-quality furniture and accessories appeal to savvy decorators and art collectors alike.

Judy is an intrinsic artist and, as a result, is primarily self-taught. "I seem to learn best when left to my own discovery." She added a year of art and interior design education from Kent State University to her instinctive artistic style. "Living in a National Park, I am surrounded daily by creation and re-creation. I try to be a keen observer and continually ‘see’ more." Judy’s resume also points to a stretch with the Sherwin Williams Company, where as a decorator then store manager she learned much about paint technology and design.

While some of the furniture in Judy’s stable are time-honored antiques, most come from more humble beginnings. Judy’s tongue-n-cheek reference to her art as "thrift revival" is more fact than fancy! Judy loves the challenge of commission work as well…the beloved but burdened hope chest that’s seen better days is just begging for Judy’s imaginative artistic touch. And there’s no more precious gift than a re-finished family heirloom.
